Limo boss tells how Gers owner Whyte bounced cheque for £34k
A BUSINESSMAN yesterday told how Rangers ownerCraig Whyte bounced a £34,000 cheque on him.
Thomas McShane owned limousine hire firm Telecars in 1992 when Whyte, then 20, wanted to invest cash in his business.
He urged Thomas, 58, to spend £68,000 on a new limo but Whyte’s cheque for half the amount bounced and thenhe vanished.
Thomas, of Johnstone, Renfrewshire, said: “I should havelistened to my instincts. He was a young spiv who was as slippery then ashe is now.
“Whyte turned up in a chauffeur-driven Jaguar with a private registration number, it was completely over-the-top. He said we should upgrade the fleet and start by spending £68,000 on a limo. He wrote me a cheque for £34,000.
“I couldn’t believe it when the bank phoned me and said the cheque had been returned. I was shocked.
“He never gave me an explanation and I still don’t have one.I think the guy isbonkers.”
Ex-stuntman Thomas sold his limo company in 1996 and now runs theForgotten Dreams fancy dress shop in Johnstone.
He added: “When I heard Craig Whyte had taken overRangers, I told all my customers what he was like.
“Now the same folk are coming into my shop telling me how right I was.”
